But with a change of ownership, it seems as though Mike Ashley will suffer for Freddy Shepherd's mistake.

Bond was sacked by then-Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd after a BBC Panorama documentary 'Football's Dirty Secrets' secretly recorded him admitting that he would consider receiving payments from a sting agency set up by the film makers.

Bond was put on gardening leave by Newcastle before the programme aired and terminated his £150,000 a year contract.

Bond has now formally initiated proceedings accusing Newcastle of breach of contract and is suing the Magpies for £250,000.

Bond is the only person featured in the documentary to have taken legal action over its contents.

Libel actions have to be taken within one year and that time has now passed for Sam Allardyce, who was also named in the programme.

The Newcastle manager still refuses to talk to the BBC in TV interviews.
