Newcastle winger Allan Saint-Maximin is set to sign a remarkable new six-year deal just over a year after joining the club.
Saint-Maximin made the switch to St James' Park in the summer of 2019, joining from Nice for around £16m. The 23-year-old enjoyed a strong debut season in England's top flight - particularly following the restart - bagging four goals and seven assists in total. His pace and skill helped the Magpies drastically in attack, with his direct running causing a number of problems.
The Frenchman has also started the new campaign brightly, with one goal and one assist to his name in just three Premier League matches.
While he penned a six-year contract upon joining in 2019, the Daily Mail report that the winger is now ready to sign a new six-year deal again with improved terms.
Due to his impressive displays at points last term, a number of clubs - including Paris Saint-Germain - began to show an interest in Saint-Maximin. Talk of a summer move away also grew as reports emerged of his frustration at not being offered a new deal. Saint-Maximin became one of the club's lowest earners when he joined, but after quickly becoming a vital first team member, the player had hoped this would change.
The former Nice man is said to be on around £36,000 per week, but will now be granted his wish as Newcastle are ready to reward him.
While a new and improved deal isn't really much of a surprise, it's the length of the new contract which will undoubtedly raise a few eyebrows. However, there's no denying his impact on this Magpies team. When he first joined, Saint-Maximin was regarded as a fairly raw talent, but his game has developed and he has grown as a player since moving to the Premier League.
