Acuna heads home

The Chile international has not played since the 3-0 win at Leeds United in February and it was made clear to him that he had no future at the club when he was placed on the transfer list during the summer.

Acuna joined United in a £1million deal from Universidad de Chile in October 2000 and made 44 starts and 15 substitute appearances, hitting the net seven times and spawning the useless piece of trivia that we never lost when he scored.

A combative midfielder who could also play a bit the 28-year-old always provided 100 per cent effort on his first-team outings, but never looked quite good enough to hold down a regular place in the starting eleven.
