Venables, like ex-Newcastle players Peter Beardsley and Bob Moncur, said it was "lunacy" for Magpies owner Mike Ashley to sack Sam Allardyce ... but there has been a rethink from all three now that Keegan has taken over.

Venables: "Football management is like riding a bike - once you have done it, you never forget how to do it.

"(Former club owner) Sir John Hall's era is well and truly over. It is a total change at St James' Park from when Keegan was there 11 years ago.

"There is a new chairman, a new manager - a new beginning.

"Sure, anyone can get tired of the game. But it is temporary, like a bruise on the arm. The bruise goes away and the feeling comes back."
