With two home games left more than a million fans will pass through the turnstiles of St James’ Park this season.

Already so far in the 2009/10 season more than 938,000 have watched games at Newcastle’s home ground.

With games still to play against Blackpool and Ipswich Town and attendances at St James’ regularly above 40,000, Newcastle look certain to set an attendance record.

Chris Hughton: “The support of our fans has undoubtedly played a major part in our success this season.

“It is tremendous to share in the joy of being promoted with them and their fanaticism is something we couldn't have done without. Thank you.

“For a million fans to pass through the gates at St James' Park in one season is a great achievement in itself. It says everything you need to know about the loyalty and dedication of Newcastle United supporters.

“We're just extremely pleased to have achieved our aim of promotion, back to where our supporters deserve to see football being played, in the top flight.

“This season isn't over yet but we know we will be able to count on our outstanding support again next year in the Premier League.

“From the team and everyone at the club, thank you.”
