The Toon Army in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that the arrival of Amanda Staveley will signal the beginning of a new era of success on Tyneside.

Indeed, the punters from the North-East have been distraught with their sides hapless run of form in the Premier League of late.

During the early stages of the season, it looked as if Newcastle’s squad were capable of holding their own in the English top-flight, but it now seems that January reinforcements will be necessary to ensure they avoid relegation in May.

Speculation concerning the ownership of the club has dominated the headlines ever since Mike Ashley put The Magpies up for sale back in October.

Although it would be unjustified for Benitez and the players to use this as an excuse for the club’s form of late, there is no doubt that it has served as an unwanted distraction this season.

However, now that the ongoing saga looks all but concluded with Staveley set to take over from Ashley following the completion of the necessary formalities, Newcastle supporters can begin dreaming of January signings.

According to The Daily Mail, Benitez could have as much as £30 million at his disposal to spend on players in January – a figure which should be plenty to attract players of genuine quality to the North-East.

At this stage in the season, Benitez simply cannot afford to take transfer risks on players with no prior Premier League experience.
