Five net England calls

Kieron Dyer and Jermaine Jenas are both named in the full squad for the trip to Portugal on Wednesday, with Sven-Goran Eriksson dropping some major hints as to the make-up of his party for Euro 2004.

Our midfield duo are selected ahead of the likes of Scott Parker and Alan Thompson, but with Steven Gerrard omitted for personal reasons it looks likely that one of Dyer, JJ or Joe Cole will miss out in the summer.

Meanwhile, Steven Taylor, Darren Ambrose and Michael Chopra have been named in David Platt’s Under-21 squad for the game with Holland at Hull City’s KC Stadium on Tuesday.

Taylor’s selection is a sign of the total faith the England management have in him, as he is still to make his Newcastle debut, despite representing the national team at Under-16, Under-17 and Under-20 levels.
