Old boy linked with return to St James’ Park

Bats gets stuck in....again
Batty has had a troubled spell at Leeds since leaving us, with appearances under O’Leary limited by a string of injuries and under Venables he has found himself out of favour.

Bats was certainly a fine player for us in the past and a defensive midfielder may improve the team. But surely to re-sign him would be a backward step and if he’s not good enough for Leeds he’s not good enough for us.

But good luck to David wherever he ends up.

Another rumoured transfer target over the summer was AC Milan midfielder Massimo Ambrosini, who has also been linked with Chelsea and Spurs.

But Ambrosini’s agent has now said that AC Milan will not be transferring the Italian.

Good player, but we’re hardly short of attacking midfielders.
