Four second half goals from Newcastle gave them a comfortable victory over West Ham at St James' Park.

The Hammers had no reply to the Magpies second-half blitz as two Lomana Tresor Lua Lua goals and one apiece from Alan Shearer and Nolberto Solano gave them all three points.

The home side had the better of the first half and couldn't find a way through but that soon changed after the break.

Bobby Robson's side broke the deadlock just after the hour. Jermaine Jenas nodded on a corner and Lua Lua volleyed home through David James' legs at the far post.

Lua Lua doubled the advantage after 72 minutes when he got on the end of Hugo Viana's cross and nodded past James from six yards.

Shearer made it three four minutes later with a neat finish from Solano's cut back.

The former England captain returned the favour with four minutes remaining when Solano bundled home Shearer's cross from close rangeThe result means that Sir Bobby Robson's men go above Leeds United at the top of the Premiership table after one game
