Yank Set To Make Shearer Toon Boss?

Shearer looks set to make a dramatic return to Newcastle United as manager after the billionaire owner of LA Galaxy Philip Anschutz was linked with a buy-out.

However it may not happen until after Christmas.

#Keith Harris, the man responsible for brokering the sale of the club: "There are two prospective owners having detailed discussions about a takeover but we're in a turbulent world financially and economically and there are no certainties at this stage."

Shearer moved to 6/4 favourite from a starting price of 8/1.

Some bookmakers in the city were reported to have closed the book on former England manager Sven Goran-Eriksson being the next into the St James's Park hot-seat, and that is despite being employed by the Mexican Football Association.

Shearer's shortening odds saw him overtake previous favourite Joe Kinnear.

But let's not rule out a Geordie manager!

After all Sting has shot up to 80/1, Jimmy Nail 100/1 and Ant & Dec are worth anyone's quid at 50/1.
