Words Mike Ashley Didn't Want To Hear?

Coming a day after Pardew signed an eight-year contract, I'm not sure Toon owner Mike Ashley was happy to hear such things.

The Toon manager said "You have to gauge your ambitions to the football club to a degree", suggesting Newcastle will never match the spending power of Manchester United, Manchester City or Chelsea.

One thing we have learnt about Ashley ... although he is a billionaire (twice over) ... no way is he going to plough money into NUFC like the owners of other clubs.

NUFC has to take care - and finance - itself, without any Ashley money propping up big deals.

The fact is - Pardew has bigger ambitions in football than Mike Ashley!!!

Alan Pardew: “Can I fulfil all my ambitions with Newcastle?

"It’s hard to say. You have to gauge your ambitions to the football club to a degree.

“I am certainly not going to talk about my ambitions to win the Champions League or World Cup at Newcastle, because I obviously couldn’t win the World Cup with Newcastle.

“I do have ambitions internationally, to do that at some point. Hopefully I will see this contract out and then see what I’m going to do later on.

“I have always felt that a person can be a success as England manager. I won’t change my opinion on that, but I don’t think it’s easy.

“Roy Hodgson probably has a tough spell as England manager because our pool of players is not as great as it used to be.

"Ultimately my ambition might reach that conclusion: to be England manager.

“It’s not something I would not do and it’s not something I want to do right now.

"It is difficult because Harry Redknapp came out and said he wanted to be the England manager one day and he got into a situation where he lost his job at Spurs.

“I had a fortune cookie the other day and it said ‘it’s great to have talent when you’re 25, not so easy when you’re 50’. That’s a good statement because you might not be good enough (when you get older).

“We all admire Sir Alex Ferguson because he moves with the times. He’s constantly done that. He has managed to keep his talent until he’s 70, which is amazing.

“So I am keeping my talent at 51 and hopefully I will still have at 58 or whatever it is.”
