Wonga Help Pay To Refurbish Toon Gates!

Last updated : 15 June 2013 By Footy Mad - Editor

The gates were taken down and stored at Sir John Hall’s Woolsington Hall on the outskirts of Newcastle in 1999.

Now, after the collective efforts of club chiefs, members of the NUFC Fans United group, club sponsors Wonga and Sir John’s Magpie Group, the wrought-iron gates will be extensively refurbished.

The gates were recovered yesterday using a custom-built frame and transported to a dedicated workshop to be restored, made possible by a donation from new club sponsors Wonga.

It is hoped that after their restoration, the gates will find a new lease of life outside the entrance to the Milburn Stand reception on Barrack Road, but only after a feasibility study.

It is hoped that the gates will be unveiled close to the beginning of the next football season.
