We all know the Magpies needed to be more clinical - but who is capable of easing the gloom?
Newcastle head coach Steve Bruce, speaking to Match of the Day: "We had a few chances in the first half in particular, but we didn't pick the right pass or the right cross.
"Chelsea have a nice blend of youth and experience at the moment. We didn't weather the storm in the second half.
"We've had a really tough start. We've now got a run of games against teams who are going to be in and around us. Hopefully we can get a few points."
On Chelsea's goal: "I have to say, I thought it was a foul on Joelinton. When you come to Chelsea you need these things to fall for you. I thought it was a clear and obvious foul on Joe."
Carroll is a walking injury disaster who isn't capable of lasting 90 minutes, and Joelinton has never scored more than seven goals in the top flight in his career!
Almirón is not only a player who has never scored for Newcastle, but he doesn't even give a sniff of breaking his duck.
That leaves us with Gayle, who suddenly appeared out of the blue for the last five minutes, and perhaps should be used more - even from the bench.
What about goals from midfield? We are putting a lot of pressure on the Longstaff kids, but they are in the side so obviously Bruce thinks they are good enough. Saint-Maximin is looking good with every game.
But ... we need someone to step up to the plate ... and NOW!
