I must admit, the prospect of signing France full-back Matthieu Debuchy could be the signing of the summer for Newcastle.
He is a class act, but United have been told to double their offer for Debuchy after seeing a £4m bid turned down.
Lille coach Rudi Garcia: “I do believe that Newcastle have faxed an offer of £4m – but they must have the wrong player.
“He is torn between staying with us and playing in the Champions League in our new stadium or going elsewhere.
“If he does go and it is a sporting progression, then we will be happy to see him evolve – but we have not planned to replace him.”
Debuchy is set to start for France tonight against Sweden as the French battle with England for that top spot in Group D to avoid playing Spain.
According to the Chronicle, he is keen to link up with close friend Yohan Cabaye on Tyneside, but is also wanted by Inter Milan.
