Newcastle United Reserves took an lead early over Everton last night when defender John Irving put the ball past his own keeper Iain Turner to set the Magpies up for great 3-0 win.

But, despite the 3-0 scoreline, Everton were still in the game late into the match, and it took a brace from Magpies striker Andy Carroll in the last five minutes to seal victory for the home side.

On 85 minutes Jonny Godsmark crossed for Carroll to fire home from the edge of the box.

Deep into injury-time the big Geordie headed home a Doninger corner to give Keegan an option for the trip to Anfield on Saturday.
