When a player gets a knife thrown at him ... there is something seriously wrong.

According to Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, AC Milan could table an offer for Davide Santon that includes Guinea international Kevin Constant moving to Newcastle plus a sum of money.

Milan will have to look for ways to reduce their spending over the course of the summer having failed to qualify for Europe next season.

However, Milan remain a prestigious club and Santon may be tempted by the opportunity to return to the city he lived in from 2005 to 2011 while at the Rossoneri's city rivals Inter.

Whether Newcastle would be excited to welcome Constant is uncertain.

The left-back who also plays in midfield received some heavy criticism for performances at Milan this season and has often looked out of his depth.

Constant may be keen to leave Italy however having been the victim of some disgusting racist abuse this season, including Atalanta fans throwing bananas and other objects including a knife at him.
