Toon Legend: This Is The Worst I Have Seen!

Rob Lee: "I have never known Newcastle to be in a more serious situation.

"The only time it was like this was under Ruud Gullit when we were struggling in the bottom three, but that was in September just before Sir Bobby came in.

"I know we were struggling under Kenny Dalglish in 1998, but since United came into the Premier League they have only been just below the half-way position.

"The big thing this time is that I think there are worse teams around Newcastle. Derby and Fulham are gone for me, and there is really only one relegation place Newcastle have to avoid.

"I would love to see them get through this season and then spend a bit of money on a few decent signings in the summer.

"It takes a while to rebuild, but if you look back at Kevin's record in the transfer market there were not too many huge errors.

"Since then, the club have invested far too much money in over-rated and over-valued players.

"So Kevin will be looking to change that.

"Against Blackburn Rovers we did see signs it could change.

"If you are creating chances in your home games like they did against Blackburn you have a chance.

"If they play the same, then eventually those chances will start to go in."

Made 298 league appearances for Charlton before moving to Newcastle for £700,000. England international who has been a superb servant to Newcastle. Was going to sign for Middlesbrough but Keegan told him Newcastle was nearer to London. The little liar! Signed for Derby County soon after Warren Barton but couldn't save them from relegation.
