Toon Legend Says 'Geordie Hurt' Will Be Key Next Season

Bob Moncur: “All of them were hurt by the consequences of relegation and every that went with it.

“But all season long they have been determined and focused on taking the club back to where it belongs.

“Once you lose your top-flight status as a player, you are questioned.

“And you want to show that you can still do it at the top-flight level.

“They are certainly hungry and keen to show they are still Premier League players.

“I look at the Stokes and Birminghams of the world, who have come up, and that is a guiding star for Newcastle.

“We know that 40 points is usually a safety target.

“But Newcastle players will be asking how quickly they can get to it. Get anywhere near it after Christmas and the season has a different complexion all together.

“It’s about having a good start and then building on that.”
