Papiss Cisse has declared himself fit to face Tottenham Hotspur at St James’ Park on Wednesday night – if he is selected.
And right now shot-shy Newcastle United could do with him – the Magpies have not scored since Yohan Cabaye was sold to Paris St-Germain.
Cisse, who trained ahead of the game against Chelsea but narrowly missed out on the squad, has been frozen out at St James’ Park this season.
He last started a Premier League game way back in October.
And despite netting in his only start of 2014 in the FA Cup against Cardiff City, the Magpies were happy to consider selling the No 9 during the January transfer window.
However, after cash bids from Fenerbahce and Trabzonspor the Magpies placed a £10million price tag on his head and neither club coughed up the required amount.
Loan bids from Premier League rivals Cardiff City, Arsenal and West Ham United were also turned down by the Magpies.
But Alan Pardew’s men, who are desperate for a goal, must be pleased to see the No 9 return.
Cisse has been out with a back injury and with Yoan Gouffran struggling to be fit and Loic Remy suspended, Pardew may have no choice but to turn back to the striker who has been used sparingly this season.
Cisse has been an unused sub in six of the last 10 games in which he was included in the squad, and the longest run out as substitute he enjoyed was just 29 minutes against Southampton back in December.
Now with his team in need of a win and some goal threat, Pardew has little choice but to go back to his No 9.
Pardew said after the 3-0 loss at Chelsea: “I’m not so sure if he will be back.
“I am hoping Papiss can be back for that.
“I think he’s obviously a player we are looking to in the last 13 games to pick his season up.”
Yet Pardew has a fresh injury problem in Mathieu Debuchy after he fell awkwardly on his calf at Chelsea.
Pardew said: “He’s got a kick in the calf and it will stop him playing on Wednesday.”
The Londoner will be without Cheick Tiote and Fabricio Coloccini until March.
