Toon Go "Cap In Hand" To Man U

Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson has agreed to let striker Giuseppe Rossi go on loan to Newcastle until January as Glenn Roeder runs out of options.

Teenager Rossi, 19, will fit in to cover for Obafemi Martins and Shola Ameobi, who are both battling against injury. And how can we forget Michael Owen's long-term knee injury, which could keep him out of the side well past January.

Rossi is an Italian Under-21 international. The deal falls short of letting him play against Man Utd during his spell. It is bold of Ferguson, who has seen Ruud van Nistelrooy move to Real Madrid, leaving him with Louis Saha, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Wayne Rooney as his attacking options.

Ferguson: "It was a big decision for us especially as we don't have the choice of strikers. But this is something that Giuseppe wanted as he needs regular first-team football. When he returns, he will be a more experienced player who will be able to offer us much more."
