Dwight Gayle has reportedly lost four teeth after being knocked unconscious on a night out with Newcastle team-mates.

At Leeds on Sunday Newcastle fans sang "He scored with no teeth, Dwight Gayle he scored with no teeth!""

The Newcastle Chronicle say the former Crystal Palace striker was out celebrating teammate Jamaal Lascelles’ 23rd birthday when he was attacked.

The group had reportedly visited several bars and clubs in Liverpool when one of the party took exception to Gayle discussing his £35,000-a-week earnings.

It is alleged the man hit the former Crystal Palace striker twice in the face, causing him to loose four teeth.

A source told The Sun: “The night had started fine, but the champagne was flowing and things got out of hand.

“One lad took exception to Dwight talking about his pay and took a swing at him. It was a real shock.”

Merseyside Police said they were called to a report of two men fighting at 4am on Sunday but arrived to find no one there.

The source added: “Everyone was in shock. Dwight was texting people the next day saying he’d lost four teeth. He was really angry.”

Gayle is the Championship’s top scorer having netted 11 times for the Magpies since joining the club in the summer.

The £10m frontman has reportedly now had his teeth repaired but had not reported the assault to the police.

Newcastle United declined to comment.

This book is a collection of the 100 Greatest Newcastle United players of all time, as voted for by NewcastleUtd-Mad.co.uk readers and a panel of journalists who contribute to the website.

The players are in an order of five-per-chapter, counting down from 100 to Newcastle United's greatest ever player (as viewed by the author), but the whole point of the book is for You (the reader) to decide who goes where.

The list is not, by any means, definitive. As with all books of this nature, whether it be "Greatest Albums"; "Best Movies Of All Time"; or "Top 100 Pin-Ups Of The Year" . . . no two people have exactly the same opinion.

There will be controversy over who is on the list, and chances are, more controversy over who is not.

Here are the best of the best. I have painted the picture with each player's profile. Where they end up in the league of Nufc's Greatest is up to you.

Because You have the final word.
