Gonzalez has made just two substitute appearances all season, having been sidelined with a niggling Achilles problem that has baffled the medics at St James' Park.

The doctors say there is nothing a paracetimol couldn't put right, but the player only seems to turn up for his pay cheque.

He picked up the ... errrr ... injury ... soon after arriving at St James's Park on loan from Valencia.

But the midfielder is back in training, and assistant manager Iain Dowie is hoping the 26-year-old can play a part in the club's battle against relegation.

The Uruguay international is pencilled in for a run-out for Newcastle's reserves away to Liverpool next week.

We claim he'll be off the field injured during the first-half. Let's see.

Dowie: "Nacho's been out for a while with an Achilles problem.

"But he's been working with me in full training, and we'll give him a game, hopefully, against Liverpool in the reserves next week."

Last season he had a spell on loan at Monaco ... but was injured in his first game.
