For the past two weeks Newcastle has been welcoming sports fans from across the globe who flocked to St James’ Park for the Olympics.
Yesterday we saw the mighty Brazil take on underdogs Honduras in the quarter final.
The 42,166 crowd inside the stadium were treated to a thrilling 90 minutes of football with a 3-2 win propelling Brazil into the semi-finals of the London 2012 men’s football competition.
Newcastle Utd fan Mo Walton: "It was amazing. I couldn't give up the chance to seeing Brazil in the flesh.
"But, I was supporting the underdogs, as many Newcastle fans were.
"Saying that, Brazil deserved to win, and it was a fabulous night."
Despite making an arse of distributing tickets in the first fixture ... the ticket office finally got its act together.
Coun Nick Forbes, leader of Newcastle City Council, said: “It’s been a privilege to have the Olympic football in our city and see Newcastle playing its part in the London 2012 games.
“The city’s people have wholeheartedly embraced the Olympic spirit and enthusiastically welcomed supporters from far-flung locations, including Honduras, Spain, Brazil and Japan.
“The council and its partners have put in a lot of work to make Olympic football accessible, family-friendly and safe. We know that it has had a positive economic impact on our city, as well as creating a carnival atmosphere and I hope we’ve shown Newcastle in a good light to the rest of the world.”
