Striker Admits Major Mistake At St James' Park That Cost His Career!
Offiong has admitted that while at Newcastle United, he thought he had 'arrived' on football's biggest stage despite never pulling on a jersey for the side now led by Kevin Keegan.
Offiong: "You can lose your focus.
"Everything is there on a plate and it's easy to take it for granted.
"It's pretty hard for young players when you're surrounded by a comfortable environment.
"You might not push yourself as much as you should, but I've learned from it and I'm a better player now.
"I was at Newcastle from U-14 level and left when I was 20.
"I wouldn't say I thought it was a cakewalk, but I just thought that I had made it and my chance would come.
"You feel like you're owed a chance, but no-one has to give you anything. You need to earn it yourself."
