Sir Bobby rules himself out of running for England job

Press reports had suggested that the FA were interested in their former manager returning to the international set up, but a week after turning down the opportunity to take over at Benfica Sir Bobby has re-stated his commitment to Newcastle.

"The chairman turned me down for England once and he would do it again," he said.

"I now understand why he turned the FA down because he just felt it would be too time consuming for me and if you speak to Steve McClaren he will tell you there is not enough time to do two jobs.

"I've got a great job at Newcastle, we're doing fantastically well and there's a lot more for me to do here. We're not there yet.

"I was prepared to help them out in that interim period, but once the chairman said no it was end of story."

I’m not entirely convinced that their was anything in the press reports anyway, as even the FA must realise that to ask somebody of Sir Bobby’s stature to be number two to anyone is just insulting.
