If Alan Shearer scores against Charlton tomorrow he will have scored 100 Premiership goals for Newcastle and will also claim a unique record.

Alan will become the only player to have scored 100 Premiership goals for two different clubs.

When he achieves this, Premiership sponsors Barclaycard will present him with a special commemorative Merit Award to mark the feat.

Premier League spokesman Phil French said: "We feel this is a great way of marking a superb achievement by one of the finest players English football has known.

"To score 100 league goals for one club is not easy. To do it for two different clubs is a hugely significant feat and demonstrates Alan's consistent excellence over 11 seasons."

Top scorers for one club in the Premiership

  1. Robbie Fowler (Liverpool) 120
  2. Alan Shearer (Blackburn) 112
  3. Ian Wright (Arsenal) 104
  4. Matt Le Tissier (Southampton) 101
  5. Alan Shearer (Newcastle) 99

I can’t imagine too many bookies giving odds on Alan not surpassing Robbie Fowler’s record before the end of next season, or maybe even this.
