Sam Says Rotation Is The Modern Way - With Managers As Well!

Sam Allardyce: "Rotation is the way forward in this game.

"No one in the game says a settled team is needed to be successful - no one says that except people outside football. The people who keep going on about settled teams are the old players no longer involved in the intricacies and the things that have to be done to evolve as a football club these days.

"These people quote old statistics from their playing days, but they're not relevant in the modern game, otherwise Liverpool wouldn't have won the Champions League (in 2005) and (Sir) Alex (Ferguson) wouldn't have won everything in football. He was the first manager to do it 10 years ago. It hasn't let him down has it?

"I'd be happy to rotate the team if I had a 60-game season.

"I'd have to. In today's game, the pace and the physical output is so great that it's impossible to ask players to be involved in 60 games. It's what has got to be done to be a success.

"Benitez takes the criticism well.

"He takes it on the chin and he just gets on with it. He's strong-willed and, from the outside looking in, it looks as though he doesn't listen to what other people are saying. Liverpool are unbeaten in the Premier League this season so it appears to be working.

"You don't need a settled team, but you do need a settled defence and he (Benitez) seems to pick the same defenders."
