First their manager said the penalty was "fortunate" ... when the player took the ball off Steven Taylor's head with his hand!

Then he added Shola's two headed goals "should have been stopped".

And now Jem Karacan thinks Newcastle midfielder Alan Smith "should have been shown a second yellow card".

The Magpies’ captain was booked in the 20th minute after taking down striker Simon Church and then lunged at Karacan after he played the ball just two minutes later.

But referee Anthony Taylor kept his cards in his pocket ... and Reading are not very happy.

Karacan: “Smith’s done a couple of dodgy tackles and I was quite surprised he didn’t get a second yellow, it could have changed the game.

“We’re a young team though and we’re enthusiastic, we can bounce back from this. We love playing games, that’s what we’re paid for.

“To lose 3-0, obviously all the boys are gutted, but that games gone now and they come thick and fast with Swansea on Tuesday.

“It was a massive occasion for everyone at Newcastle and the boys were buzzing in the changing room.

“It’s what you dream of as a little kid and I’ve always wanted to play here, it’s just a shame we didn’t get the result we wanted.

“We’ve got quality players up front and the chances will come, but it just didn’t run for us.

“The more games you play the happier you are and Swansea have got some good players and a new manager and will be up for the test and we’ll look forward to it.”
