Poor Xisco Is Stuck With 'Dennis Wise' Tag!

He cost us £5million in a bizarre transfer that will go down in Newcastle United history as being as odd-ball as the deals that involved Mick Harford signing for an hour (1981) and rumours Kenny Dalglish signed the wrong Andersson when he signed Andreas back in 1997.

Dennis Wise signed Xisco, a player Keegan had never heard of, and the story goes that Wise told KK to "check him out on You-Tube".

Keegan didn't bother, he just cleaned out his desk and headed off into the sunset.

The striker spent last season on loan at Racing Santander but has returned to fight for his place (and his future) at St James' Park.

Hughton says he is happy to welcome him back to a squad ... but he is under contract and he has to come back anyway because Racing Santander have said they don't want him.

But the fact is ... the kid has done no wrong. OK, he didn't impress in his last spell here, but it wasn't for the lack of effort.

He was under incredible pressure once Keegan left, and he was tagged as being part of the reason for the disruption.

He deserves a chance, and I hope the fans give him enough time to settle and show us what he can do.

Hughton: 'Xisco has been good in pre-season. We have six strikers who have all been fit in pre-season so it's been a case of shifting them around to give them the minutes they need.

'The difficulty for him is he's playing in a position where we have a lot of options. All he can do is to force the decision. He can put himself in a position to perform and train well.

'He's older now. When he came it was a difficult period for him and the other players. Sometimes the experiences of a foreign player coming here with other strikers in front of you, you don't get a real rhythm.

'I suppose it's a little bit like Leon Best when he came in January with Andy Carroll and Peter Lovenkrands scoring goals for fun. It made it difficult for him to get the minutes on the pitch.

'Xisco played more regularly back in Spain last season, now he must continue to do well in pre-season and force the issue.'
