Plenty of rumours but where will Newcastle target their transfer business first?

Loads of attacking links but defence has to be a priority

Inevitably, Newcastle United have been the subject of huge transfer speculation since the takeover of the club was completed but now as the January transfer window is set to open, Eddie Howe has to make his moves as soon as possible in order to give his team the best chance of Premier League survival.

Those recently linked with the club include strikers such as Aubameyang and Igholo, Barbosa and Vlahovic, but while forwards often grab the headlines, surely Newcastle must turn their immediate attention to addressing the porous defence.

Spurs centre-back Joe Rodon is one defender who is apparently being considered and links have also been made with a move for Atletico Madrid full-back Kieran Trippier.  Players of this calibre would undoubtedly improve the Magpies defensive options and after the Southampton game on Sunday, Newcastle do not play again in the league until 15th January so it is possible that reinforcements could be added before the crunch clash against fellow strugglers Watford.
