Pardew's 'Stage For Maniacs!'

The League Managers Association has suggested “repositioning” the technical areas in response to Alan Pardew’s, by now infamous, butt on David Meyler.

Perhaps if the technical area was put at a slight angle – which at St James’ would be pointing towards the median point of the Robson and Milburn statues – then some soothing, positive forces will persuaded Pardew to keep his head.

Hull City goalkeeper Steve Harper believes his former Newcastle boss is fortunate not to have lost his job after head-butting David Meyler at the KC Stadium last weekend.

After being fined £100,000 and warned about his conduct by the Magpies in the hours that followed his moment of madness, Pardew will learn the severity of his punishment from the Football Assocation today.

Harper witnessed the episode unfold from his position on the City bench late in the 4-1 loss to Newcastle and says Pardew's actions were incomprehensible.

Steve Harper: "For a manager to do that for me he is lucky to still be in his job.

"I don't think it has been blown out of proportion. I still can't believe it.

"The incident seems to have been on non-stop on the television and every time you see it, it seems to get a little bit worse. I am amazed.

"My brain was saying: Did that really just happen? He didn't really do what I just think he did, did he?

"Everyone said exactly the same thing – that they couldn't believe it.

"He's got a bit of a roll-call with regards to his reactions but nothing like that.

"Meyler gave Alan Pardew a shove which he shouldn't have done admittedly and then there was the reaction from Alan Pardew which, to be honest, I am still a little bit shocked by.

"Having seen what happened there wasn't as much of a melee as you would have expected having seen something like that.

"John Carver got up and he can be pretty ferocious when he gets going and John had a smile on his face as if he couldn't believe it.

"Steve Bruce and Steve Agnew were up there as well but everyone was taken aback by what happened.

"As soon as the referee spoke to him he regretted it straight away.

"I'd never seen anything like that before.

"There have been one or two incidents in training over the years between players but nothing like that."
