Ba will be available for £7.5m in January’s transfer window because of a release clause in his contract and he gave an interview to a French TV station saying he wanted to sign for Arsenal.

We heard that the Newcastle board considered fining the 27-year-old but Pardew knew that would only inflame the situation.

As well as talks with members of the board, Pardew had a meeting with Ba - to confirm there would be no action against him.

United have had the interview translated, and there will be no disciplinary measure taken against him.

But - let's clear this up - Ba DID say what what quoted in the newspaper. Of that there is no doubt!

Alan Pardew: “I think the most important thing with Demba is that he’s a goalscorer, and he’s scoring goals.

“I’ve had to (speak to Demba). The quotes in England weren’t correct. They were unfair on Demba, and unfair on us.

“There’ll be no disciplinary procedure against him.

“The most important thing in that conversation was about turning the situation around.

“I’ve got no problem with anything he said in that interview.

“Unfortunately, the contract he has leaves it open, and I have to answer these questions.

“I think he’d be disappointed to leave in this window. But the decision will ultimately be his.”
