John Terry could be set to spark a club-v-country battle amid claims he has declared himself fit for England's Euro 2008 qualifier in Russia.

The Chelsea and England skipper's knee injury is believed to have been caused by a piece of floating bone and although it may need surgery, the Daily Mirror reports the defender could be able to delay the operation until next month's 10-day international break.

And in the short term, the Mirror claims he has told England boss Steve McClaren he is fit for Wednesday night's match in Moscow, though he reports "Chelsea's medical staff will want reassurances from FA doctors that Terry is ready to fly before he is allowed to go."

The Independent, however, carries a more gloomy assessment of Terry's chances.

It reports that his progress over the weekend was not as quick as the England medical staff had hoped and his fitness remains in doubt.
