... he is fully aware he has played just 11 games for the Magpies since his £17million move from Real Madrid last August.

But twelve months on, he admits his luck could hardly have been any worse since the collision with England team-mate Paul Robinson at Tottenham in December which caused his first lengthy lay-off.

Owen: "I have obviously had a few hamstring problems in the past, but not something that has really affected my career before.

"When I signed, I had played well over 300 games in my career and international football, and all at the highest level, so the demands were as high as they get and I know my body can take those demands.

"Unfortunately one freak thing - Robbo landing on my foot with all his weight coming down on his knee - put a break in my foot.

"We will never know whether the injury since has had anything to do with that or whatever it might be, but since then doing my knee was a nightmare.

"But hopefully I will be back and as good as ever."
