A United insider said: "Alan hasn't heard anything from Blackburn or any other club, but he'd like the chance to stay at Newcastle and try to help them get back up in any case.

"He feels a strong sense of responsibility for what happened last season, having been injured and then unable to prevent relegation.

"He knows the situation at Newcastle is uncertain, and if the club decide to look to sell him, so be it.

"But he won't be pushing for a move, and whoever comes in as Newcastle manager, he would be itching to play for them."
