Kevin Nolan (talking to the Chronicle): "It's important we consolidate this year, and then we can go on to bigger and better things next season. That's why I am here.

"Outside the top four, there are not many clubs who have the fanbase and stadium to rival Newcastle, and that was a massive attraction for me.

"I'm sure, given the position we're in, the fans will be right behind us.

"They want to be where they belong, and we want to be where we belong.

"With us working together, I'm sure we can go on to better things.

"I don't think we'll have any problems with the ability we've got in the squad.

"Recently, Newcastle have been very unlucky with injuries more than anything.

"They've always had the players and the ability to do it, but at the wrong times they've had players out with injury.

"If we can get the likes of Michael Owen, Joey Barton and Mark Viduka back as quickly as possible, you're talking about world-class players.

"If you've got them in your team, you've got every chance."
