Nobby: 'Let's See How Good Newcastle Really Are'

Last updated : 14 September 2012 By Footy Mad - Editor

... with the assertion that Newcastle were “in a different league” from Everton.

For now he’s right. The Magpies are in the Europa League and Everton are not, but it upset Phil Jagielka this week.

Jagielka pointed out Pardew should show more respect to other Premiership clubs ... because United's minor success last season could come back and bite Pardew in the arse!

Pardew says Newcastle are on course to "establish themselves" and season by season they will get better.

Personally I don't think it works that way. What happened last season doesn't mean 'Jack Shit' ... because we all start each season on ZERO points.

You don't get a bonus for finishing first, second or anywhere else - it's a new season, and you start from scratch.

Toon legend Nobby Solano says he cannot wait for Monday, because we will see how far Newcastle ... and Everton ... have come.

Nobby Solano: “This is a tough game for Newcastle against Everton.

“There are a couple of injuries to worry about as well, especially if Fabricio Coloccini is going to be injured or Tim Krul.

“But if Newcastle show the fighting spirit they did last season they can get something.

“I think that Everton will be one of the main contenders to fight for a top-six place this season.

“So this is going to be a game everybody will be keen to see, and I’ll be watching from Peru as well.

“The next step is logically to move into the top four (for Newcastle).

“I think this is going to be very hard for any team with Man United, Man City, Arsenal and Spurs, plus Chelsea and Liverpool.

“But I said last year that if Newcastle show the momentum they can get there.

“The key is the home games first and foremost and then making sure the rotation for the Europa League is balanced correctly.”

NEWCASTLE UNITED REVIEW 2011/12

j

Newcastle United fans have seen their team come a long way since earning promotion back to the Premier League in 2010 and nobody could have predicted the exciting season that lay ahead at the start of the 2011/12 campaign.

This was a season of rejuvenation as changes were made both on and off the pitch with fresh talent drafted in, in the form of Cissé, Cabaye, Ba and Obertan to name a few, and manager Alan Pardew delivering a brand of attacking football that earned him both the Barclays and LMA Manager of the Season awards.

With the new signings settling in well, and with a good core of players already at the club, Newcastle United undertook an incredible journey that saw them return to the upper echelons of the Premier League and secure a place in Europe the following season, only narrowly missing out on a Champions League place.

There was plenty to cheer this season as stalwarts of the team Fabricio Coloccini, Cheick Tiote and Jonas Gutierrez all solidified their reputations at the heart of the club and Tim Krul and Hatem Ben Arfa both delivered impressive displays.

Relive this exhilarating season in full with highlights of every game and every goal from the campaign including victories over Sunderland, Liverpool, Chelsea and a dominating demolition of 2010/11 champions Manchester United.
