Newcastle the Latest Club Linked With Move for Real Madrid Outcast James Rodriguez

Newcastle are the latest side to be linked with a move for Real Madrid's James Rodriguez, with the Colombia international known to be interested in trying his hand in the Premier League.

Paper talk surrounding Newcastle and their potential incomings has been rife since their imminent but yet to be completed takeover came to light, with everyone from Lionel Messi to Kylian Mbappe linked with moves to St James' Park - not that either of those transfers will actually happen, mind.

Rodriguez hasn't found his feet at the Bernabeu since joining Real back in 2014 following a star turn at that year's World Cup, and was most recently shipped off to German giants Bayern Munich for a two-year loan.

That move worked out fine but Bayern opted not to pursue a permanent deal, resulting in Rodriguez returning to Madrid, where he has made seven La Liga appearances so far this season, scoring and assisting one apiece.

Now, a couple of reports have emerged linking the former Monaco star with a switch to the Magpies.

Firstly, Goal claim Newcastle have entered the race for Rodriguez alongside fellow Premier League sides Manchester United, Arsenal, Everton and Wolves, with their report citing a potential €32m fee.

Another publication, this time in the form of Colombian outlet Caracol, backs up that €32m cash sum, and also states that Los Blancos would prefer to recoup some of the £63m they spent to acquire his services in the first place rather than let him wander off for free at the end of his contract next year.

Either way, it's probably best not to get too excited or prepare any #WelcomeJames signs just yet. Newcastle's ownership saga is still yet to conclude and dealings in the next few transfer windows will undoubtedly be affected by the financial strain put on clubs by the global coronavirus pandemic.
