It happened during the interval of their defeat to Manchester United. Spurs fans jeered during the break when a replay was shown, but Premier League rules state that replays of controversial moments must be avoided.

During Kevin Keegan's reign as "Messiah" at Newcastle, Sir John Hall visited Highbury and was impressed by the screens they had positioned at either end of the ground, say: "We will look into it, I think this is the way forward for crowd entertainment".

But later Newcastle played at Spurs and Keegan asked for the screens to be turned off because they were too much of a distraction to his players. And Newcastle's interest in them ended there.

A Premier League spokesman said today: "We will wait for the match officials report before taking any decision on this matter."
