Newcastle 2020/21 Third Kit Leaked as Puma Change Track With Ambitious Violet Design

New third kits are hardly the most pressing concern at Newcastle United right now.

At the top of the list of priorities is the coronavirus pandemic that has halted football, slashed their revenue streams and forced them to furlough members of their non-playing staff.

Just behind that is the ongoing and highly controversial Saudi Arabian takeover, as Mohamed bin Salman and the Saudi Public Investment Fund edge ever closer to prying the club away from Mike Ashley.

Somewhere behind all of that unprecedented uncertainty, there is a place for the leaks that emerged from Footy Headlines this week, showing a vibrant violet Newcastle third kit for 2020/21.

The prospective new kit was brought to fans' attention when it was circulated by the Chronicle on Sunday, and Footy Headlines' bizarre yet admirable reliability when it comes to kit leaks means the images can be taken with relative certainty.

The only aspect of the kit up for debate is the main sponsor. The club's deal with gambling firm Fun88 is up in the summer, and negotiation over a new deal has been suspended for the time being with the ownership of the club up in the air.

A new primary kit sponsor, or a new deal with the current suitor, will be negotiated as and when things clear up on that front. It has been sketchily reported, however, that Saudi-based energy company Saudi Aramco - in which the prospective new owners have a vested interest - are one of the frontrunners.

It's certainly a change from the club's current bright orange third kit - but Footy Headlines additionally report that fans might be seeing a bit more of that particular colour scheme when the 2020/21 away kit is announced.

Puma are expected to produce the 2020/21 kits despite the expiration of their long-term manufacturing deal, as a short-term rolling contract is reported to have been agreed.
