Mystery Deepens ... Owen To Miss Man Utd Match?

Owen's pre-season has been strange, to say the least.

He missed the games against Hartlepool and Doncaster, originally because of injury (or so we were told), but then the club said "he has mumps"!

Allegedly a calf injury stopped the England international from flying off to Majorca with the rest of the squad, and from taking any part in games at St James' Park against PSV and Valencia.

Keegan had vowed earlier in the week that his skipper would be fit for Premier League action against Manchester United on Sunday, but has since hung fire on confiming he will certainly be at Old Trafford.

Keegan: "Normally at the start of a season you wouldn't want to risk any players, not Michael Owen or Alan Smith.

"If there is a doubt I will leave them out.

"It will be Michael or myself who will decide if he is fit enough to come into a Premier League game."

Tomorrow we will give an in-depth look into Owen's troubled three years at Newcastle ... asking the question fans have asked for a long time: "has he been worth the money?"
