Milner handed in a transfer request last week and got his wish on Friday.

Milner: "I enjoyed every minute at Newcastle. It was a fantastic club.

"I enjoyed working with the manager and they are a great bunch of lads, but I knew offers had come in over the summer and the club had turned them down and the valuation of me wasn't reflected in the deal I was on.

"Speaking to them, I felt it was the right thing to put in a transfer request to show them how I felt, seeing as they didn't think they were on the same wavelength as me. They then made the decision to sell me.

"It was Newcastle's decision and now I'm an Aston Villa player. A new contract was never discussed and that was a source of frustration."

"Kevin Keegan has been fantastic with me all the way through.

"He's been very supportive. I had a great relationship with him and I learned a lot from him. We talked a few times over the last few weeks and last night, once the fee has been agreed , he was great and wished me all the luck in the world.

"He told me he wanted to keep me but obviously things change quickly in football. I'm a Villa player now and the Newcastle chapter has ended.

"Newcastle are very ambitious, but Aston Villa is a fantastic club as well. They're very big like Newcastle.

"They've got a great squad of young English players, with a mix of foreign players as well.

"They're improving every season. The top four is tough to get into, but a club will get in there at some point.

"It can't stay that way forever, and Aston Villa are in as good as position as any to challenge that."
