Martins Stripped Of Spot Duties

In the end winger Bobby Mitchell, who had never taken a penalty for Newcastle before, walked over and said "for God's sake ... give me the ball here!" ... and he planted it past the goalkeeper.

Last Thursday against Belgian side Zulte Waregem we saw the other side of the coin. Two players WANTING to take it, and the man given the job of penalty taker, Nolberto Solano, was over-ruled by team-mate Oba Martins. Something that didn't rest to well with manager Glenn Roeder.

Martins did score from the spot but Roeder says Solano, who will make his 300th appearance for the Magpies, is tonight the official penalty-taker.

Martins missed at Everton in December although he has scored twice since from the spot.
Roeder: "It will be Nobby. He is our penalty-taker. He took two very good penalties against West Ham and Liverpool.
"He did not take the penalty last week. I have got great confidence in Oba taking penalties - I know he missed one at Everton, but he has taken three and scored two.
"But at the moment, while Nobby Solano is on the pitch, he is our penalty-taker. If we were to get a penalty, the boys absolutely know my feelings. Nobby will be taking that penalty. The players have to do what the manager wants."
