Inter Milan's Nigerian Obafemi Martins was on Tyneside on Sunday having a medical before signing on the dotted line for the Magpies.

Glenn Roeder: "He is another very good player, different. He is very, very quick and strong."

The Toon's interest in Martins cooled during the week. Apparently because of this bizarre question of his age. He claims he is 21 - the club say he is at least 28. But does it really matter?

Newcastle are meeting with Obafemi Martins's representatives on Sunday and expect to tie up a deal within the next few days for the Internazionale striker. Martins's management team are flying to England and will meet with a Newcastle delegation, including chairman Freddy Shepherd.

A deal of €16 million (£10.9 million) had been struck between the Premiership club and the Serie A giants.

If all goes well on Sunday, Newcastle could announce Martins's capture as early as Monday.
