Martin Jol - Writing Was On The Wall At St James' Park!

We reported on THIS site that the Spurs boss would not be in the job by the weekend ... and that seemed a cast-iron certainty the way the game unfolded on Monday.

Former Tottenham boss David Pleat believes whoever succeeds Martin Jol in the White Hart Lane hotseat will need money to spend in January to lift them out of their current slump.

Sevilla coach Juande Ramos is now reported to be the man who will succeed Jol and Pleat believes whoever comes in will have a tough job on their hands.

Pleat: "Now it's going to take a fresh voice and the board are going to have to spend a lot more money - they have already thrown £40million at it and have one of the biggest staffs in the Premier League.

"I feel for Martin, he's done well here for two years and will certainly get a job back in Holland - and possibly here if he wants to keep on managing here.

"His experience here will have whetted his appetite for big things and we all wish him well.

"He has had the opportunity to manage a very big club.

"I saw his body language (during the Getafe game) and he never got into it.

"I think he lost his heart after the situation was exposed in the press where the Spurs directors went to Seville. I think that was a tragic day for Tottenham.

"People will see there hasn't been a united front over the last few weeks - and to only win one match out of 10 (in the Premier League) means something is amiss."
