Mike Ashley controversially brought the ex-Wimbledon man in as interim manager in 2008 after Kevin Keegan left the club.
Kinnear’s colourful time in charge ended in February 2009 when he needed a triple heart bypass operation.
Stats showed no club played more "long balls" than Newcastle last season, and bringing back Kinnear is a sure sign that will continue IF he has anything to do with team tactics.
