Keegan Returns To Find Club In A Mess!

The 57-year-old agreed a list of potential targets with owner Mike Ashley, chairman Chris Mort and Dennis Wise at the end of last season, and left them to get on with their work.

During the intervening weeks the Magpies have been linked with a series of names  but the only movement so far has been out of St James' Park!

Stephen Carr, Peter Ramage, David Rozehnal and James Troisi have left he club, while Newcastle have agreed a deal with Fenerbahce for midfielder Emre's return to Turkey.

In addition, Ipswich are closing in on a move for striker Shola Ameobi, and James Milner is on the radar at Liverpool.

Steven Taylor and Michael Owen (who KK insisted MUST stay at Newcastle) have still not been offered contracts, and Joey Barton is set for the sack.

But what is of concern to the fans is that while there has been plenty of talk about arrivals - nothing has materialised as yet.

Keegan had to admit defeat in his pursuit of Jonathan Woodgate, Giles Barnes, Luka Modric, and Arsenal are favourites to land Bafetimibi Gomis.

It promises to be an anxious few weeks for Keegan as Wise and vice-president (player recruitment) Tony Jimenez attempt to bolster a squad which was small even before the departures started.

The former England boss, of course, spent heavily during his first reign at St James' to recruit the likes of Les Ferdinand, David Ginola, Faustino Asprilla, Warren Barton, DAvid Batty, Shaka Hislop, Philippe Albert, Darren Peacock and Alan Shearer.

The fans want to see Ashley get his hand in his arse pocket and show some ambition!
