The former Manchester United midfielder was captain for the game against Hertha Berlin Mallorca on Friday night in the absence of club captain Michael Owen.

Keegan: "Nicky's an experienced player. He's got the respect of everyone at the club - staff and players alike - and he leads by example again.

"I like those types of skippers. He's not one of those who shakes his fist at everybody - he just does his job and says: 'Work as hard as I do'.

"That's why I like Michael as captain. They're the type of people who are good as captains. There's Geremi as well - he was captain at Doncaster.

"They're good round the group, they care and they help the young players."
