Is Shearer Saying He Would Back Taylor And NOT Carroll?

Although he has done brilliantly to keep Newcastle top of the table this season, Chris Hughton is known to be a bit of a soft-touch.

As he continues to say bugger all about the Carroll-Taylor punch-up ... some suggest he should have nipped it in the bud immediately and slapped a fine on the pair of them.

But he is not a strong voice in the dressing room, and rumours still surface that certain players are running the show at St James' Park.

When trouble comes to the surface, the players hold their own meetings behind closed doors.

Now ... be honest ... is this the 'done thing', and could you see that happening at Old Trafford?

As Hughton doesn't know what to do next - and continues to push the incident under the carpet - it makes him looks weak and it is not impossible that this affair could yet spark a chain of events that may lead to him being replaced next season.

One thing is certain, Shearer won't be asked to take over, not as long as Mike Ashley is the owner.

But Shearer has at least past comment, something that Hughton refuses to do: "Andy has a lot of talent but he needs to improve in almost every area.

"There are also one or two things going on off the pitch he has to sort out. When you're in his position you can't keep making mistakes."
