Is It Calm Before The Storm For Toon?

Pardew says the club have done enough to protect his star players from unwanted approaches ... but he said "Andy Carroll is going NOWHERE" just 24 hours before the Toon No 9 joined Liverpool.

With three days of the transfer window remaining, the only move still on the agenda at St James’ Park appears to be for a striker, but it won't be England international Andy Carroll.

France right-back Mathieu Debuchy has been ruled out by the United hierarchy, and Ajax’s Gregory van der Wiel has put off Mike Ashley and Co by the player’s wage demands.

Newcastle have had no formal bids for Yohan Cabaye, Cheick Tioté or Fabricio Coloccini – but that doesn't say the three are safe just yet.

United would want well in excess of £20million for all three and that has scared off Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham.

Pardew will now persevere with Danny Simpson despite the ongoing impasse in his contract negotiations.

Simpson will be replaced eventually - probably in the January transfer window - but at the moment he will stay at St James' Park.

I wouldn't say pressure is on Mike Ashley because he hasn’t supplied the cash to broker a deal for top target Debuchy - because pressure is like "water off a duck's back" to the Toon owner.

But with the money in the bank from previous transfers out, many fans cannot understand why he doesn't add the extra £1m that Lille want.

The full-back expressed his desire to move to England several times and maintained regular contact with former Lille team-mate Cabaye.

But at 27, Debuchy would not have enough sell-on value to justify a fee in excess of £5m – which Lille demanded.
